Dead Rats for Big Shure foam windscreens?
« on: July 20, 2009, 06:02:37 PM »
Hi people

I know some folks have dead rat covers for their big ass Shure foam windscreens...

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a manufacturer that makes one the right size OR what kind of furry/fleecy stuff is most effective for making one up myself?

Thanks in advance!

Yea, even for Colorado wind, if you have to wrap the big ass Shure's then it may not be worth it. I am, however, going to make some for the DPA windscreens.

windcutter has rats that are made special for the dpa 0896 and fit like a glove I cant recommend these enough to other dpa owners.

I didn't see a direct link on the website for the dpas.  Anyone got one?

Thanks for pointing me back to the windcutter website, I didnt realize they made one for the A81WS

To me the big shures are not particularly great windshields, although they do seem to get alot of praise around here. They are after all just 2 types of foam layered. I feel like it doesnt take an especially stiff breeze for one to start getting some LF rumble using these bad boys and I for one could compromise a little HF for a useable recording with a dead rat over the top..
Also I work in film and I use the Shures for dialogue recording too and have been bitten before getting LF rumble on my Schoeps MK41 as I had no extra layer to whip out!
