Need General Advice On Laptop Field Recording
« on: March 22, 2004, 06:49:08 PM »
Hey Everybody,
I'm kinda comin to grips with the fact that my d100's days are numbered.  i'm thinking about springing for a laptop rather than a new portable dat, but really havn't followed the trends too much.   I've read a few faqs but want to know what's really working well for people.

I'm not worried too much about using the new laptop for much other than taping.

We had some outside vendors come into work the other day and they had toshiba travelmate c110 laptop/tablet computers.   Looked really sweet.   When thinking about field recording, I think I'd rather deal with a tablet (not clamshell keyboard ) for ease of use.   These are pretty sweet in that the screen will swivel to use it as a keyboard or a tablet.   It ran win xp tablet edition.  Don't know if that would be appropriate for field recording or not.   I'm guessing it would at least be able to run wavelab ...   Seemed like a pretty sweet machine for our purposes but don't know about power ...

So whats the best thing out there?

Thanks,
Gray

Yeah, Lunatec has a complete solution coming out soon. Sonic Sense (link above) will carry it. Core Sound also has DAT-replacement technology.

FYI: You dont have to go the laptop route. Check into the solutions above before you make any rash decisions. I am in the same boat, and still have not decided.

Good luck,

This is news to me. What is this "complete solution?"
Out of the game … for now?

MISINFORMATION ALERT!!!!!

Sorry, kids. It's actually a Fostex. I got confused when we were talking, as it was compared to the "SIZE" of a Lunatec pre.

Anyhoo, same reasoning applies. Look at the solid state recorder section on sonic sense for more info.
