Taping behind the stage?
« on: December 14, 2015, 11:58:48 AM »
Ran right in front of the SBD Saturday night for the Christmas Jam in Asheville. During the Ashes and Dust set, I went to the upper lever behind the stage all the way to the top row. A four speaker array was pointed straight at me and the sound was crystal clear. Just wondering: Does anyone ever tape from these behind the stage  satellite speakers? I think I could have got an excellent pull from up there. Not to mention having a seat and a non-existent wookie problem....... :D

Can work great. If it sounds good, it is good.  Ears override eyes.

Kind of what I was thinking. I've never noticed anyone doing it.

Usually the closest you can get to a PA in an arena setting, and most run the full stereo image (if running in stereo) behind the stage.  Honestly if I don't need to be out front for some reason I actually prefer it back there.  Had great seats for an Elton John show right behind the stage a few years ago. Could see his hands on the keys

It sounded damned good up there. May have even been able to get away with running omnis.

At some shows, they put a nice video screen back there so the fans can see what it's like for those in front of stage.  Security usually isn't all that tight back there and I've known guys who were able to shoot a nice static shot of the screen and record separate audio and end up with a really nice DVD of the show.
