I'm looking at one of these to run with my mod 460's...
has anybody around here ever heard anything using this pre.
It looks really promising to me 8)

I checked these out a couple years ago. If I recall, it only runs on AC.

Flexible power supply requirements. The RNP will run off of either AC or DC as long as the voltage range is within 9-12V (and has a current capacity of at least 1.5Amps). Polarity of the wallwart connection is unimportant so that you don't have to worry about that detail either. In addition, if you happen to connect a wallwart that doesn't have enough oomph to power the RNP (like the RNC's wallwart), the RNP will tell you by periodically flashing it's front panel LEDs.

Ahhhhhhhhh...interesting, different from when I last checked it out. Cool!! Looks to be a power hog, though, if it needs a peak current capacity of 1.5 amps.

I will have room in the bag though...the dimensions on this thing are
5 X 6 X 1.5 inches, pertty damn small
:edit: actually if I figure this crrectly, Ideally I should be able to get about 2.5 hours out of a 4000ma 9.6v right

Took the plunge, but I have yet to run it.
I'm still working out some power issues withit and I have ther gear in the shop, so It will porbably get its first run, hopefully may1.

I was contemplating the RNP back in January, but got a good deal on the V2>SBM-1 combo.
have heard great things about it and some of my studio friends talk highly of it

I ran it for a while with my SR-71's.
Power: It's really not that much of a power hog. If I remember corectly (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't), I believe that 1.5 amps is needed to power on, then the amp requirement drops considerably.
Sonics: Flat, Neutral, Uncolored, etc. You hear your mics and the room, nothing added or taken away.
Gain: I ran it too hot for a couple of shows, until I got it dialed in just right. If you are used to running at +24, I would suggest starting the RNP at +18 or so, just to get the "feel" of it.
Customer Service: In a word, Awesome! My first RNP had a bad clip light, that would sporadically flash on/off rapidly, for no reason. I called Mercenary (vendor), they put me in touch with Mark at FMR who is the engineer, pres., customer service rep., and just about everything else in the company (his wife does the shipping though). I spoke with him at length about the problem, he had me do a series of the usual tests (switching mic cables, gains, etc) and then told me to send it back to him and he'd get me out a new one. Sent mine back the next day and the following day there was a new RNP at my door that he 2nd Day Aired from TX to NY, based solely on good faith!
I used the new one for a few more months, but then got a deal on the Aerco that I couldn't pass up. Besides, the RNP's sound doesn't really mate that well with the EW sound, and the Aerco fits the bill nicely. Called Mark back up, explained to him the situation, he agreed to take the new one he'd just sent me back for a FULL refund (-shipping).

Ahhhh...I remember now, it's the RNC I was looking at that wasn't easily powerable by DC in the field.
