I bought a mod sbm-1 and the gain or whatever knobs seem to be stuck together.
They are at the same position, but i cannot adjust them independently...anyone ever run into this?
Am I doing it wrong??--classic newbie question :P
I have only used 1 other sbm-1 and the knobs turned separately...ie i could set the L channel to 6 and the R channel to 3 if I wanted.
HELP >:(

if you hold the inside knob in place can you turn the outside knob independently, and vice versa?
-
somebody used that sucka as a gooball mixer. ;D
I think one of mine was a little tight, just needed some gentle nudging. honestly, this might be a blessing. I think I had one that was so loose, I had to make sure one didn't get knocked off proper level during a show.

i never change my left/right on the sbm-1...i let the pre-amp adjust the levels up front
the l/r gain on my sbm-1 is tight, but if you do what Tim says you should be ok

I can see snug...or a little tight, but this MF is stuck >:(
I tried to hold the inside and turn the outside and i tried to hold the outside and turn the inside...pretty damn hard with no luck.
Oh well, I'll try again tonite.
btw I need the sbm-1 for fine tuning, my pre has 6db steps

how many dBs are the L/R channel off by? If it's only a couple decibels, I'd just fix it in post-production and not worry about it. That's the conclusion I came to after a few years of obsessively checking the levels to make sure they were perfect.

I feel ya Dave, I should have some pretty closely matched akg's after I get them modded...it is just the excessively anal person in me that has to have everything perfect or close to it ;D
thanks for the help guys +T's to all

my sbm1 was virtually brand new when I got it and they were tight as well....over the past 4 years, they have gotten looser as I have used them...

I took a small pair of channel locks and put some cloth around the inside knob ot hold it and tried to turn the outer knob as hard as I could without breaking anything and still no turny of thr knoby ???
I'll be calling Doug today I guess.
This sucks I just got this thing back from Doug after about 6 f--in weeks.
