curious what could be the next step for an upgrade staying into the same size and price range,
I still can go with the ATU853 stuff because they brought some nice results !

I think you should just stick to what you've got. There don't seem to be any substantial mic upgrades in the segment you're in.

If you ever decide to get rid of the 4061's and the 9100, let me know.  :)

For small cards another option is the Microphone Madness MM HLSC 1s.

These have been known to overload when in a high SPL situation. A 4.7k mod is recommended.  I owned them for a while and got some very nice recordings from them.

People here can do it. It's Chris Church's mod and he can do it.

Pillowman, have you experienced any overloading with your current setup?

My AT853 caps used to overload till I got them modded to 3-wire. The 4.7k mod is also an alternative.

I also feel there is no significant upgrade from the 853s unless you have the money for Schoeps.

I never had any overloads with my ATU853 and I'm mainly do very close stack taping (1mtr - 5 mtr)
but my mics have the low-sens-mod.
really I nice pair of mics which can recommend !!!

I did one recording with the 853's and they overloaded. Then I knew from reading here it was either 3-wire or 4.7k mod for them.

don't know exactly if my mics  have the 4,7k CA mod or the SP low sense mod because
I bought them used from acidjack ... as I told before with the mod you can tape very close to the speakers !

They are the same. SP started to offer the 4.7k mod (they call it the low sens mod) after Chris told them about it.
