Rt angle connectors for V3 Pwr
« on: November 26, 2006, 11:11:16 PM »
Does anyone make such a thing. I rember when I bought my v3 way back I bought a cable off someone here which works but just looks a little suspect. It was obviously bent with a torch...I'm not complaining since it has worked great since I bought it. I just bought a VR box and I'd like to get a 90 degree power conector for the V3 to go to the male  4 connector xlr. Can anyone help!!!

i can make you a cable, not right angle, but can be bent to 90* and the whole weight of the v-3 can rest on it.
there are many in use by taperssection members with no problems.

this is the lithium ion cable, but i can make them with 4 pin xlr's no problem.

thanks

You could just switch the battery side of your current cable to 4-pin XLR.  Then you wouldn't have to source another right-angle V3 connector.  FWIW, mine was an ugly, ugly hack job but worked flawlessly for years.

I am using Ed's power cable for my V3 and have not had one problem. The V3 sits on it in my lowepro bag

So Brian, You make perfect sense because I never want to carry those two lead boat anchors again and there is no need to buy a new cable. And when I said suspect earlier it really isn't that bad, I'm just one of those damn OCD & AADD freaks who like things to be perfect or else I generally suffer from panic attacks (I'ts not really that bad usually).
I just orderded two of the ones from B&H and should get them within a week. The cable I have now is wired as black is #2 and red is #3 what do I need to do now...I hate to seem so ignorant but Physics was my absolute worst subject in college. Can you or anyone possibly educate me on what wires go where.

Thanx in advance

Ed's cable isn't a right angle, but he has it engineered so it's cool with weight on it. Is that right Ed? Does anyone make a right angle cable for the V3?

I have one of Marc Kim's old RA V3 cables that I used to use with a borrowed V3.  It sat unused for A LONG time until I got a new V3 of my own.  However, I could not bring myself to hack apart Marc's work and just ordered a couple of the Switchcraft connectors and made my own.  It's not that tough.  Just drill a hole in the side, plug up the original out end and then heatshrink the whole deal.

Ed made me a custom cable 5-pin cable and I can certainly couch vouch for his talented work.

+T for the Bones avitar.  I hacked R-angled mine and it also looks suspect, however sealed it with gorilla glue and haven't had any problems or worries.
