not sure if anyone specifically uses the sbm as the frontend for the jb3 but plenty of people are using those 7 pin opticals to go to their jb3. works nicely (dont forget the 1/8" adapter for the end of that optical cable). I wish the sony cables were a bit more durable tho.

Thanks jp,
i have that exact set-up you described working now. Though I still have a few questions for anyone who's been using it successfully.

I remember someone posting recently about running SBM-1 > 7-pin optical > JB3. May have been over on the Yahoo NJB3Tapers (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/njb3tapers/) group? Not sure.

I just bought an SBM-1, and ran 7pin optical>JB3 the other night at JB and Friends with no blatantly obvious problems. I'll test it when I get some time to make sure it's bit perfect, but I don't see why it wouldn't be.
The guy I bought the SBM from said they ran it the same way and had no problems FWIW. Go for it!

Lee,
Would you tell me which firmware you're using?
I've tried 1.32.02 and 1.40.06, can't go back to 1.20..
My problem is i get pops all through my wav using v1.40.
1.32 does better, but not "perfect".
Are there other factors I should be checking besides firmware to help clean up my wavs?
This is so funny, I feel like a total newby all over again. ha ha.. Alright, thanks!

I use 1.32, but I think I'm one of the minority that trusts it. Didn't even know 1.40 was out yet.
There's some post back in the archive about downgrading firmware. Seems like a PITA, but might be worth it in your case to go back to 1.20. There's more than enough JB3 info around here, chances are anything you're looking for has been discussed. But you know that ;)
edit: Week's JB3 has been screwing up wav files recently as well, I think he runs 1.32, but I could be wrong. I told him to try formatting the drive and defragging it. I'm pretty sure that's somewhere in the archive as well.

try formatting the drive to get rid of the pops/clicks - that works for me.

I've searched for any possible combination of SBM-1> JB3 info, nada.
But what i have found is that, now correct me if this is wrong, but is a large amount of HD space is necessary for clean recodings? If so, formating maybe just what i need.
Also, I've found that Rolling back to v1.20 from 1.32 or higher can't be done. At least I can't trick it to going back. gets a message that says something like (your player can not start up properly reboot and try again)...shite.

i believe MikeW runs the sbm-1 > jb3, try contacting him, maybe he can give some insight into the problem you are having.
