Black Audio

I was reading one of my old Dupree's Diamond News from Fall 95 and ran across an old ad for a company called Black Audio Devices out of Ventura, CA. They made a portable tapers preamp.
The ad says

"Hey Tapers"
are you looking for the best portable mic preamp?
our stereo battery mic pre rivals any studio mic pre.
runs on 9v
$700

Just curious if anyone ever saw one or owned one.
I can't think of any time that I ever saw one of these units out in the field.

Cheers, Phil

I've known Bruce Black for a long time and I used the preamp mentioned on a PBS Documetary about the Dakota Indian's exodus from Minnesota after the uprising of 1865. I needed a high quality battey powered preamp because all of the interviews were outside and many of the native folks we interviewed were very soft talkers.  It required a lot of nine volt batteries but sounded wonderful.  I was using a Sennheiser 816 mic into the preamp and then into a Shure FP33 at line level.
Haven't been in touch with him in years, but I think he's still in Ventura California.
Regards,
Bernie
