Hi,
I have a D8 DAT recorder that is starting to behave strangely.
When inserting a tape and closing the lid, "load" flashes on the display. Then, the display suddently shuts off and comes back to life showing absolute time. The "usual loading noise" can't be heard.
If I try to press any key on the lid, "load" appears, the display shuts off and comes back.
This all seems to indicate that the loading procedure is no longer correctly done.
However, right now, this problem only occurs with cleaning tapes (Maxell HS-4/CL) but I guess that it is going to occur with 90m tapes soon...
The second problem occurs with all types/brands of types I could test. When I try to fast-forward a tape, it is forwarded during 2 seconds then the forwarding slows and starts again ... to finally display "blank".
From what I could understand, the first problem with cleaning tapes could be explained because those tapes are thinner than "normal" dds tapes and so more sensible to the wear of the recorder.
The second one is due to wear on the deck (from the Victor Liu website).
Does anyone have any hints on what could cause those problems and if they are easily fixable ?
If not, I'm going to send the deck for repair (not to Sony Europe this time...).
Does any european dat taper have ever heard of "professor_magic" (Ebay ID) who services Sony portable dat recorders ? Is he recommended ?
Thanks !
