Recent R-09 static issue
« on: November 04, 2006, 07:53:42 PM »
what the heck happened here????

attached is an mp3 clip.  the recording was done using the internal mic on the R-09 @ 24/44 using the 4GB transcend card.  it was working fine before it turned into static.  i've attached the mp3 (may or may not work) as well as a screenshot from CEP.

FWIW i taped a show on the same card the night before, and re-used the card without deleting the previous sets and thus also not reformatting the card.  the next set i taped this night came out fine, but the following set has the infamous "bad chunk riff data" problem where i'm gonna have to audiohack it.

any chance you switched input sensitivities from low to high??

nope. the recorder was in my hand in the open, i only taped 1 song w/ it w/ the internal mic.
plus it just turns into static, not a brickwalled recording.

Same thing happened to me the other day when recording a concert....I was using my R-09 as the back up recorder and my MT as my master recorder. Both recorders were connected to my V3 (digital -> MT, analouge -> R-09)....Lucky my MT worked fine throughout the concert. Now my MT is more reliable than my R-09!!!!
Mics: DPA3552 kit/DPA3521 kit/DPA SMK4081 kit/DPA SMK4060 kit/Schoeps 2X MK21, 2X MK22 and 2X MK4v and 2X Schoeps CCM2S
Mixers/preamps: Sonosax SX-M32/Sonosax SX-M2 LS/Grace Design V3/DPA MMA6000/Millennia HV-32P
Recorders: SD722/PCM-D50/MT2

Any chance you can post a pic of the wave? I've had a static issue in my rig and haven't been able to pin it down...

Sorry...too late it was a week ago and I deleted it from my SD card. My MT gave me a perfect wave so no point keeping something which was no good. It actually looked the same as the picture above from the other member.

Also sometimes when I have recorded many tracks in my R-09 and attempt to record more tracks my R-09 gives me an error message saying my SD card was the wrong speed...so didn't allow me to record. So strange I am having funny trouble with my R-09. My MT works great now (expect it does not do forward and rewind fast enough - which is annoying).

Father,
You help me to love.
My relationships with others reflect my relationship with you. You are love. You deal with me gently, mercifully, and kindly.
When I am unkind, judgmental, and harsh, I am not acting like your child. When I forgive others, encourage others, and
appriciate their indivisuality, I am reflecting to others the way I have been treated by you. When others look at me, I pray
that they can see your love in my eyes.
Amen.

ALLAHU AKBAR!

oh lord, first my flat-line recording experience with the r-09, as detailed in a thread below, and now this.  i wonder what's going on, whether maybe roland released the recorder before really putting it through the paces.  it'd be a total bummer if these problems turned out to be systemic....

I had this same issue on the same night with the "SD card slow" error.  I was recording multiple sets on the same 4GB card.  I was able to record and not miss anything.  I dont think any of my recordings were incomplete in that sense, but i cant say for sure.

Taping tonight, 1 set on a clean formatted transcend card.  I dont expect to encounter any of the said issues.   :)

This happened to me, not in the middle of a file, but on subsequent files. I took my R09 to Disney World and was recording several different sounds around the parks over a couple of days. I had about 22 tracks recorded at 24/44.1 with the internal mics. I was also using Lithium batteries, hoping to not have to change batteries over a couple of days. So after about 22 recordings, I started getting the "SD Card Slow" error, and most of the files I tried to recover with the header repair came out as solid static. There were a few that came back fine, but overall they were pretty wrecked. - I think it might be time to upgrade my firmware. I wasn't too excited to do so until now.

If anyone's curious, my ambient Disney World recordings can be found here: http://www.scubajeremy.net/WaltDisneyWorld2007-01MP3/

is it your understanding that upgrading the firmware will take care of the problem or is it more that you're hoping it will?  just curious!
