From the preliminary information, it's hard to see this as a 'professional' digital recorder without specific wav file formats and manual REC level adjustment ability, but looks to be a nice MP3 player with some recording features. Time will tell just what this model can do.

it HAS manual level adjustment as stated in the data specs.

of course "professional" seems a bit overrated

but 16bit 44.1khZ WAV recording 3.5h is enough for a concert.

That was my thought exactly. It does seem tiny, but the killer will be the interface. If it works well, then they might have something. If it is anything like most Japanese interfaces on tiny devices, forget about trying to stealth this device because you'll never be able to get it set properly in the dark.

It looks like just three levels of adjustment for the input record level if that's the case, I am going to sell a lot more preamps LOL.. I think having fixed record levels is kinda lame. But I guess we will have to see what the real deal is once this unit is released. I am with Nick it sure don't look very pretty. But who knows...

Cute little unit but appears mostly intended for playback and the 2gb nonexpandable memory is a nonstarter these days. They should put in an SHDC slot.

but for 150Euros it's sort of expensive....compared to the new Zoom H2 which can do 24/96 with line-in option, too.

here in europe everything is more expensive

....the edirol r-09 costs 390-400€ and used irivers H140 make 200€-250€ on ebay.

agree on the low memory, i have an upgraded jb3 60 gb, and that is not enough memory for me. specs are interesting though.

A lot of things in US are cheap but really shity, compared to Europe.....I guess you never used a US eraser (rubber) or correction liquid/fluid (tipex) before!

-it has 3 gain settings: 0dB -10dB and -20dB (comparable to high/medium/low sensitivity) - settings can be changed during recording session
-in between these ranges manual adjustment can be done with the knob using "ext. MIC" ONLY
-5 stages for display-light (OFF, 10sec, 30sec, 60sec, ON), when recording it´s set automatically to medium brightness
-recordings are being saved in folders according to their source: folders: mic-in/line-in/ext.mic/FM
-live-monitoring of sound recorded is possible(headphones)
-firmware updates possible
-standby timer
-sleep timer
-OS languages: German, English

Hi all I'm new to this forum and I am trying to learn the ropes so if I make any mistakes along the way please let me know.

I have recently purchased this device the DR2 but made the mistake of ordering it from Austria. The instruction manual was in German and so was the default setup of the device. My ability to translate German is very limited so I had to hunt around the internet a fair bit to get English translations of the manual so I could change the setup to English. Even then the device is baffling me. I did a bit more reading online and then I suddenly figured out how to record on the device. I did not realise that the earphones also doubled as microphones until an hour ago. The instructions need to be dumbed down a bit for a beginner such as me! I still don't know how to make a 'line in' recording as in taking a mono recording from a old fashioned tape recorder through the headphone socket of the tape recorder to the device. This is one of the main reasons why I bought the DR2. The other thing that has me baffled is the firmware aspect of the device. I use windows XP but the firmware updater just freezes on screen and everything I have tried to get the firmware going has failed. I don't know if anyone else out there has experience with this device but if you do I would much appreciate any advice you are willing to spoon out.

On another point is there a forum here dealing with home made sound-proofing studios? I would like to convert a shed for the purpose of recording poetry and perhaps as use for band practise.

would be much happier if OKM (soundman) spent more time trying to find capsules for OKMIIrs again instead of trying to compete with Sony, Edirol, etc on recorders.

The thing you have to remember about any "line in mic jack" is they are going to be sensitive and prone to overload even before you get a chance to use a record level control.. So I would have to see what the overload specs are on the line/mic input. Before I smacked any money down on it. Besides everyone here knows I work for Zoom.
