Marantz EC-3 suitable for taping?

It looks like my EM-8 has bitten the dust  :-\ - unfortunately it's not available anymore. That said, is the Marantz EC-3 (cardioid condenser mic) suitable for taping? It looks very similar to the EM-8, and I can get it very cheaply here.
