Title: DW Bronze will now be GAPLESS
Post by: Tim on January 28, 2004, 01:22:54 AM
There was some discussion of DW Bronze today on digi-panic and some bithcing (by me) that it seemed silly that they couldn't put gapless on DWB and keep the price down (they had claimed this earlier) because they already have the technology. Really, how hard could it be?

Apparently there were a few similiar complaints  ;)

posted earlier on the digi-panic mailing list... an to a poster from the folks who make DWB:

just bear in mind before you go buy anything that the guy that posted that email to digipanic is using a troll address (thepitsticker@comcast.net) and doesn't sign his name and minnetonka has not changed the feature set of the software on its website.  seems crazy to me that they would undercut their other products so quickly.  nobody will pay $300 extra just to be able to put shitty menus on their dvd's.  i think this guy is fucking around.

well, hopefully, i'm wrong, it would be great to be able to trade dvd-a's here shortly, but it just seems unlikely to me without giving discwelder steel v.2 time to develop its market.  who knows.

i hope i am...i'll be disppointed that i paid almost 4 times as much as y'all, but at least i'll be able to make menus  :P  it would be great if came out at $100 so that everyone who buys an SD box will buy discwelder and dvd-a/24bit flac trading will be good to go.

I posed the same question as the guy on digi-panic and got the same response:

Wes,
That is true, as of yesterday. We will update STEEL with some new cool features to distinguish its price point. Stay tuned!
Thanks,
Craig

I recently heard that the specs for Discwelder Bronze had changed and that DWB will now support your gapless feature.  Is this true?

cool...now what's gonna be in store for steel v.3???  it would be killer if they included the chrome feature that allows you to author discs to be played on both dvd-a and dvd-v machines.

This is such GREAT news. I have all my laptop 24/48 files sitting on HDD waiting for something like this. I can save the 400.00 and put that toward a DVD-A player and burner.

Funny thing is I had pretty much just decided that HDD was a cheaper way to go vs. DVD-A. I guess I will have to rethink my plans

what about Sonic DVD Audio Creator 3.0? i am assuming this is not gapless...  i think i remember reading that minnetonka developed the gapless software inhouse.

FWIW there is a cracked version of this in the /upload/software/ folder on everyone's favorite panic FTP server if you want to play around with it..

I had some talk with these guys.  We had a few riffs, but worked it out.  I was concerned that our $400 for Steel was a waste, so I mailed them.  I was a bit rude, I paid $400 for something that now costs $100, and they responded accordingly.  After several emails we worked out the concern.  I urged them to make the new one gapless because it would increase the trade circles and thier exposure.  I also made sure to let them know that all us Steel fans wanted some more bang for our buck considering Steel was several more hundred dollars.  They were wide open for suggestions, and assured me there would be drastic improvements for Steel to compensate for the cost.  Should help all of us DVD-A traders.
