Title: AD1K run times
Post by: tadjblack on April 17, 2003, 11:55:04 AM
The first run with my ad1k was last night and half way through the second set I runs outta juice. I did a little pre show testing but I figured the 12v 7.5ma battery could take it. What should I expect in run times with this unit?

Hate to hear about the crash tad.
A car battery is what you need!!, do a little cooking?
+T  in hopes you get that baby juiced up before the cheese!!

That battery should have worked for a 3 hour show.  It must not have been fully charged!  I use tyo run mine on a 12/12, and always could get at least 6 hours out of it.  Phantom on decreases the run time, but not by as much as you would be talking about.

The AD-1000 draws about 1500mA peak with the pre-amp and A/D section both operating.

Although the math would suggest more, using a fresh 12v/7.2AmpHour battery, you should get about 4 hours of use.

Happy Recording,

Marc

The one drawback of the ad1k, and I mean ONLY drawback, is it's power consumption.  It sucks, but I would run bigger batteries just to be on the safe side...oh yeah, and bring an egg, set it on top, and you have a sweet, freshly cooked dinner for the way home ;)

I don't know.  I borrowed Ben's AD-1000 with his 12 volt for the Christmas Jam and it lasted me through the entire thing, about 6.5 hours+ of music.  I ran it with mics > AD-1000 > D8 so the preamp was in use the entire time.  Ben said that he had never tried running it for that long, but it never ran out of juice.

Expect 3-3.5 on old ecocharge 12v using Phantom Power. On the new EC-90, I would say 4.5, but haven't run it out. I run an EC-90 with a V2 @12v & AD1k for 3hr 45mn.

i have gotten 4.5+ hours from a 12v 7ah eco with the ad1000 as pre/adc. the light started blinking at 3h45min and then the show was over at 4h30min. i dont know how much more i could have pushed it.
