Ua5 phantom power issue
« on: August 06, 2004, 06:37:22 PM »
I just got my Ua5 off of eBay. I am powering it with the Walmart battery. The unit powers up fine and all of the lights up front including the phantom power light up. The unit is not powering my mics though. I know its not the mics or the cables. Has anyone had this happen?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron -- few questions --

1) a ua5 that's not digimodded will only supply a signal to a computer and will not, standing alone, feed a signal to a dat/jb3/etc. Is yours digimodded and/or are you feeding a computer?

2) On mine (digimodded), the phantom power needs to be manually activated each time I turn the unit on -- further, it takes a bit (20 seconds?) after turning on the unit for it to allow me to activate phantom power.  Same with yours?

3) assuming the above 2 don't illuminate the issue, do you have another way to provide your mics with phantom power (i.e. a ps2) that you can use to be sure it's merely a phantom power issue (i.e. see if mics>phantom>ua5 will give you a signal)?  Another option is to see if the line input on the ua5 provides a signal

I asked the seller if it was had a mod and he never responded. This was after I bought it so I really do not know. I plugged in a toslink to mini for my JB3 and the light came on in the cable. Does this mean that it is sending signal or is that simply a light? Sorry about the bad discriptions, this is my first preamp.

Sweet, so are you good to go? (i.e. are you seeing levels on the jb3) or do you need to get this digimodded?
