722 and akg 414's ?'s
« on: February 03, 2007, 02:50:25 PM »
ok so i got to set up the 414's>722 set up as usaul on friday night and bam no dice on one of my akg's
i traded cables and channels and got nothing out of one of the mikes?!? (the same one using 2 sets of cables)
so i set up using the stealth rig and taped...
today
i break out the rig and set up i get power on both mikes in in one channel but flat on the other channel
so i switch cables and get signal on the other channel with both mikes
so both channels seem to run fine?!?
and both mikes seem to run fine but not all at the same time?!?
are the 414's pulling to much power from the 722?!?
also i used this rig on 1-25-07 and all ran fine
i am not sure if it is a 722 problem or a mike problem all my diagnosis points to neither?!?
any help
nate

I've run a 722 with 414s before, so it's not a matter of pulling too much power. I'm guessing it's an intermittent short somewhere in the XLR jack. It could be as simple as the pins not seating snugly into the jack.
Out of the game … for now?

First suspect: phantom power off (green light on?). Check the little switch right next to the XLR. Typical setup (at least the way I use it) is phantom on for mic setting, off for line setting.

Second suspect: cable or contact. Wiggle it around a bit, pull / push, see if things change. Any "sound" at all from the cable when listening through headphones and subjecting it to mild force is a clear suspect.

Third suspect: 722, but far down the list.
