Massdrop sent me a PCM D100 with Chinese language menus (the bums). Does anyone know how (or if) you can get the machine to show menus in English?

how much was it?

From here it looks like someone says you can't change the Massdropped "Japanese" version to english - doesn't go into detail

That was my post on Massdrop. The original thread on TS when the D100 came out said the Japanese version couldn't be changed, then was corrected without any indication of how to do the upgrade (there is a reference to the Japanese version of the manual, but I can't find anything in English).

Maybe this helps? http://helpguide.sony.net/icd/pcmd100/v1/en/contents/TP0000226002.html (http://helpguide.sony.net/icd/pcmd100/v1/en/contents/TP0000226002.html)

Thanks, it is in the right direction (but because the display was in Chinese to begin with, the nice self-explanatory stuff was not interpretable in English). Another unhappy Massdrop customer, who complained three weeks ago, was prodded by my email to him earlier today to find an explanation that worked (like, "select suitcase icon, then pick third alternative on screen"). Massdrop never did come up with a fix.

try asking a person who can read Chinese to help you set it to English!? I bet you can find someone at a chinese restaurant if there is no school near you... offer to buy them an appetizer & a TsingTao if they get it working for you!
