do you have the proper drivers installed?

i personally think the first problem is that you are using playcenter.    :-\

i only have nomad explorer and the current firmware / drivers.

less is more.

Help!  I am having the exact same problem as DudeCountry.  When I try and download the newest drivers it gives me the same message.   Now I followed the above advice and downloaded notmad explorer and it tells me that the device drive could not be initialized.  What the hell is going on here?

I had a somewhat similar problem. Turned out to be the USB, picked up a $20 or so firewire card, works like a charm

not NOTMAD by red chair, but rather NOMAD explorer - the creative product.

http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp Go through "MP3 Players"->"Zen"->"NOMAD Jukebox 3"

2nd link is nomad explorer. I was having trouble with my connection and this cleared it right up. It's snappier than notmad and it lets you into both the music and data folders (unlike the stuff it replaces).

Quote
Filename: NMEX_PCApp_3_01_10.exe
Creative NOMAD Explorer (Version 3.01.10)
NMEX-WEB-1-LA

Creative NOMAD Explorer enables you to conveniently manage your NOMAD player's music and data library with Microsoft® Windows® Explorer.

You can use Creative NOMAD Explorer to:

drag and drop songs and data files between your computer and NOMAD player
manage songs in your NOMAD player's music library
manage data files in your NOMAD player's data library
create and edit playlists on your NOMAD player
edit track properties in your NOMAD player's music library
After installing Creative NOMAD Explorer, you can find the NOMAD Explorer icon in Windows Explorer, under My Computer.

Requirements

Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition
Creative NOMAD Jukebox 2, 3, Zen, Zen USB2.0, Zen NX, Zen Xtra or Zen Touch
For NOMAD Jukebox 3 users only, driver version 1.04.06 (JB3_Drv.exe, dated 27 Aug 2002, 935 928 bytes) or later installed on your computer
Note

Creative NOMAD Explorer replaces Creative File Manager Version 1 and 2.

Edit: The driver is on that same page just down a little further.

Ok so I downloaded and installed nomad explorer and when I open it it says "not connected".  Now I know that my computer recognizes it because when I first plug the JB3 in the little dialoge box says Nomad Jukebox 3.  So far none of the 3 nomad softwares recognize my player.  And again when I try and download the newest drivers and firmware it says, "Creative Media Source not found"  I guess I am going to try and find this creative media source.  Dudecountry, you have any luck yet?

There is something about media source on that same download page. It won't let you install the drivers? I guess it must be looking for some other software. Do you have the original cdrom that came with the player? Maybe that would be the best place to start. I'm just trying to help you but I'm a little baffled myself. I would probably try to delete all my creative software and start with square one.

Edit: BTW, I spent a couple of hours trying to get my jb3 to communicate by usb and it doesn't really want to. Is it messed up because I already connected via firewire or something else, I dunno. I do know I've talked to someone who did transfers via usb but I can't remember who it was. Things I read about were conflicts with other usb devices - try it as the only usb device. USB hubs are a known problem with the JB3 - make sure it's connected to the computer directly.

The firewire card may save you a lot of time and trouble with this. It will save a lot of time later.

I fixed my problem but it is still slightly intermittent.  I removed all of the software I got with the cdrom.  I kept nomad explorer.  I then went back to nomadworld.com and downloaded the latest drivers.  That was successfull!  I then downloaded the newest firmware and that was successfull! So I hooked up the jb3 and it seemed to be working.  I just looked at the cd it came with and it doesn't list drivers or firmware in the contents.  Thats weird.  Anyway Its all good now except sometimes it nomad explorer still doesn't connect and I have to just re-establish the connection and it will be fine.  I guess I am going to be picking up a firewire cable soon.  It seems like a better plan all around.   Thanks everyone.

Joe

DudeCountry you should try the same thing with deleting the nomad software and installing nomad explorer.  It worked for me...

It doesn't seem to show you the percentage transfered in nomad explorer.

And with the second question I have no idea.

Yes, it shows a meter on my computer (WinXP) when I drag from the nomad explorer and drop on the wildows file explorer. There is some extra time at the end still for copying the file from a tmp location to the "actual" location.

I'm not sure if I had the 2 creative programs installed at the same time. I did go back and forth between redchair notmad and creative explorer and I have them both installed still.
