R-09 and Transcend 4GB - Bad card?
« on: February 25, 2007, 11:04:33 AM »
I bought a 4GB Transcend SD card (not the 150x but the cheapest one) for my R-09 but something is very wrong:  Each time I power up the R-09 it says either no card or unformatted card.  I then format the card, record a little bit to check if everything's OK then turn the unit off.  Next time I turn on the R-09 the same thing happens:  I have to reformat again and the files allready on the card are lost. I have the latest firmware (1.20) and my other SD cards work perfectly. I've been using a 2GB Sandisk Extreme III with no problems whatsoever.  I also formatted the Transcend card on the PC and it helped a little bit:  I could power the R-09 off and on a few more times and the card was regognized but after about 5 powering on and off the same thing happened: Unfromatted card.

So I suppose something must be wrong with the card?  Has anybody else experienced any problems with the Transcend 4GB gards?  Just wondering if there's any suggestions/comments before I send the SD card back to the shop.

Sounds like a bum card to me.  Send it back if you can and upgrade to the faster Transcend 4GB.  I have 2 of the faster cards, and have never had a problem with them.

I bought an extra Transcend 4GB card from here:

http://clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=CA4358010

When I was recording with it the levels on my R-09 were lagging. I immediately switched back to my Transcend 4GB 150X card and everything came out fine. The card in the link above is just too slow for use in the R-09 I sent mine back.

I haven't had any problems with the slower card, in at least twenty uses at 24-48. :shrugs:

That's what I read here when I did a search for which card to buy. If I had known there were issues whith this slower card I would have gone for the 150x 4GB card right away.  :P

If we had had issues with the slower card, we would have posted them. There are quite a few other people here using the slower card without issues.

I should note that the music I did record with the slower card turned out fine its just the levels were lagging, not quick like they are with the faster card. I just didn't trust the card so I decided to send it back.

I realize that.  So it must be a just a bum card.

Did you update your firmware to v 1.20?  The 4 GB cards weren't "officially" recognized under the old firmware.

I originally posted: "I bought the same card at Clubit.com.  It is the slower one, and so far, no problems."

Now, I have nothing but problems with this card.  I do have the latest firmware update (1.20) for the R-09.
The card is seen by the R-09, it formats, and shows 3.75GB available.  I record at 24 bit, everything goes as normal as when I was using my 2GB card.  The card is not seen by the computer, either loading it from the R-09, or from various USB 2.0 SD Card readers.

The card works flawlessly when formatted from the computer and used in those same SD Card reader/writers as a device to write files to and from the computer, but to use it in the R-09, it has to be formatted in the device, and then it doesn't work for me.  I'm going back to my 2GB card.

I have a slower transcend 4gig card and the faster one.  I have noticed no difference between the two when recording.

I also have a 8gig.... Have had some interaction with tech support and they hope to support it via the next firmware but it is not for sure yet.
