I was browsing YouTube looking at video mic demos and came across this one from JuicedLink

I was impressed with the MixPre vs JuicedLink, made me sit up and take some notice.

...just interested to know if anyone is using them as a mic-pre on a digital recorder?

That is pretty cheap, especially the phantomless one for $200. I wonder what parts are inside. There are no specs on the webpage.

Wow :o! The juicedlink sounds a bit quieter than the mixpre.

The two of them are very quiet. I would be interested in the four channel juicedlink but it just seems a little plastic like from the pictures. You are getting two channels more for a $100 less when you buy the juiced over the mixpre, tho.
tough call.

Noticed at the very bottom of the web page linked in the op that the housing is aluminum.

If anyone gets one of these, I'd like to see the guts >:D.
In particular, does it use good chips like THAT1510/1512 or INA series? Does it have a decent split DC supply?

Hmm, looks interesting.
From the Tech Talk/FAQ page, it says they use the THAT1512.

after reading this and listening to the sampes I have to say...WOW. I am thinking aboutgrabbing a 2 cahnnel version just for SBD feeds for matrixing, it has to be better than nothing and for $180 it is affordable!

I do like your attitude and how you plan on using it. At first I was like, "But its not pretty like the MixPre :P" Now I can see a use for the two channel even if its for a non-essential use all the time. For $180, its pretty good. maybe we could figure out a way to mount it for our use instead of a camcorder.
Considering you can get two extra channels for less than the cost of the mixpre--what do you have to lose???

Unless I misread it, that cheap two channel doesn't provide phantom does it?
Thats why I would just use it on board feeds. I am grabbing a BUssman UA-5 for pre W/phantom.
Nope you read it right. The cheapest @ $189 is 2 channel and no phantom:
CX211 Camcorder XLR Audio Adapter/Mixer/Preamp
• Inputs: 2 XLR balanced inputs
• Low-noise preamp - 3 gain settings
• +/- 1dB max, 20Hz-20kHz
• L/C/R pan - true buffered mixer
The next up @ $300 has phantom:
CX231 Camcorder XLR Audio Adapter/Mixer/Preamp
• Inputs: 2 XLR balanced inputs
• Low-noise preamp - 3 gain settings
• +/- 1dB max, 20Hz-20kHz
• L/C/R pan - true buffered mixer
• Phantom: 12V/48V
