AKG 391 actives (homebrew) FET question.....
« on: November 16, 2006, 12:59:24 PM »
Alright.  So I have the 300b body and the ck91 cap all in peices in front of me right now and I'm sure I can make a "permanent" active cable from the cap to the body....but my little brain thinks I can make the "active" ck91 cap removable from the body.  But the question is the FET.

Does the FET have to be in direct proximity to the capsule pin to work correctly?  Or can the capsule pin be extended by 7-8 feet with high grade wire to the FET and the FET still works normally?

(my ghetto diagram)

how it is made CAP---FET

how I'd like it to be made  CAP---------------------------------------------------------------------------FET

will the voltage be enough for the cFET to work properly?  (I guess it has to do with impedance of wire right?)

thanks,

KLOwe

i can't really help you at all, but the few people i have seen the the 91 "actives" used a battery box not the actual bodies

uhh..... never mind.  Didn't work and effed up the capsule in the process.
but it was my "experimental cap" so no worries.  Gotta try to desolder this thing now.

Don't give up on any capsules or bodies.  I can probably fix this stuff, as others can.

My advice is just run the capsules from a battery box, better for stealth and don't need phantom power.
