Title: Grace V4
Post by: DF81 on February 10, 2015, 06:15:10 PM
any chance a V4 will be manufactured?  better DAC, internal battery?

They stopped in 2011 with the increase in portable recording device market, but now it's not as booming as it was 2-3 years ago.  Maybe a portable recorder w/ Grace preamps?

I doubt it!

I don't think so. Grace has explicitly stated in the past that they have no plans for a successor. If they did pursue this, it would likely be a completely different product more in line with today's all-in-one recorders. There is simply no market these days for stand-alone 2-channel preamps and ADCs.

Also, I think you meant ADC. The V3 does not have Digital-to-Analog conversation capabilities.

Never will happen - market is WAY too small nowadays

I have talked to Mike G about this a few times

They had a prototype recorder but shelved it as well due to changes in the market (introduction of units such as Tascam DR-680, R-44, etc)

An all-in-one would be kickass though ;D

SD already has this small market...a chunk of that wouldnt be much.

I agree, but it would be nice to see some competition. SD has been neglecting their recorder line-up for too long and I'm not a fan of the 6-series mixers that have gotten all the attention for several years now. The 7-Series recorders still outperform the mixers and are overall better for concert recording, but ancient in terms of convenience features. They are still selling a $4000 product with firewire 400 output... that is insane and practically inexcusable in 2015.

I'm glad that SD hasn't discontinued their recorder line entirely, but the reality is that their product lineup has been stagnant since 788t was released many years ago and the entire line-up needs a refresh.

I'd like to see him make a small all-in-one recorder w/ phantom.  About half the size of a 722.  It would sell like hotcakes.

I think there would be a greater market for a 4 channel V2 (V4)...

Yea, something the size of the Tascam 70D, but with Grace preamps would sell really well IMO!
