Benchmark DAC1 USB
« on: September 05, 2007, 11:34:58 AM »
Just got my DAC1 USB in the mail and all setup yesterday.  I'm overly pleased with it, huge upgrade from running crap analog outs from my emaigc card.  Now I'm running the DAC1 > ARC D120 > Maggie 1.2's.  The DAC1 drives the audio research with plenty of power and it ships with attenuator jumpers inside set at -20, so if I needed to bump it up, it wouldn't be a problem.

Nice, do you feed the DAC1 directly from a PC via the USB?

I like the fact you can do 24/96 via usb, this i unique since most DACs w/ USB only do 16/44.1 over usb.  This really opens up the possibility of miniature systems that can be built for playback w/o the requirement of an onboard digital output or using up a PCI slot.

I have a dac1 that i just picked up used for $700 (non-usb version).

Since there arent really any usb models on the used market, i coulnt really justify an extra $600 for the usb option, since my $30 soundcard is tested bit-accruate.

I'd love a usb model, hopefully in a few years they are around.

Yes, right now it's straight USB from across the room but I just ordered a USB > Cat5 converter so I can run the cable through my basement to the DAC1.

I'm guessing you won't find mine used in a few years, it'll still be sitting here pounding away!  :)
