Sony STRDA3000ES Price Question
« on: November 19, 2005, 02:19:32 PM »
I have never put ANYTHING into a playback system EVER.  My theory has always been, "Make the best recordings that you can and when you are old and cannot move or leave the house dump loot into a playback system and enjoy."

Well, I am thinking about how I would like to start slow and was wondering if $410 shipped was a decent price for the unit listed above.

Bueller?

If you didn't drop the dime it looks like you might be too late.  They appear to be GONE.  I do still see some 7100ES's for $2k and some 3100ES's for $999 though.

sheeeeit!!! Just my luck!

the 3100 doesn't have the "mojo" though.  so its not a contender.

??

what makes the ES amps so good is the S-Master pro chip and signal path.
this was dropped in the new line on all units except the 7100 and 9100.

i've heard neither, so I cant say.
i'd venture to guess "better".  :)

it's awfully hard to judge the quality of your tapes when you don't have adaquete playback

good call on putting money into playback :)

re -24/96 playback.  I believe a lot of dvd players downsample to 24/48.  You might be a lot better off digitally feeding the strda3000es from a pc.  Enjoy!

pioneer elite dv-45a can be found for around $250, plays everything I throw at it and digitally sends a 24/96 signal to my 3000es

I may be in luck yet - Magnolia hiFi by me has 2 on clearance for 399. Not sure if they were floor models, or what. They also had a 1000es and 2000es (?) for the same price ??? weird.

I'm gonna hit two more stores and see what they may have... might be coming home with a new toy :)

you ok?
car somewhat ok?
+T for swappin' paint  ;)

I'm ok - gal/bf I hit were ok. She went from doing 35 -> 0mph in like 2 seconds... and it was the 2 seconds I looked out my sidewindow at something.. let me tell you those 4 car lengths between me and her closed in a BIG hurry! if I had 10' more I probably would have been stopped w/o her assistance. Just my bumper is f'd up - truck totally driveable. the rear hatch on her minivan - yea.. it resembles the front end of my 96' sonoma.

+t back atcha!

I have an 6-year-old old Pioneer DVD-525 DVD player that I cannot get the 3000es to lock on to the coaxial signal.  I am tempted to try my laptop just to make sure that it is a user error and not the unit itself.  I went into menu set up and assigned the incoming stream to the DVD/coax and it did no good.  Can someone familiar with the unit tell me my magical button combo so that I don't have to run off of RCA's?

I need a new DVD player that will play DVD-A's anyway, maybe this will be the straw...

For what it is worth, the manual is severely lacking in explanation on "how to's".

I agree on the lacking of explanation.. I've read it three times and some things aren't clear to me yet.. I'll get it hooked up tonight and see what kind of damage I can do. :) It seems the manual is a direct japanese -> english translation almost!

yea, the manual sucks.  there are a couple of features that I have not been able to figure out and the manual just doesn't elaborate on the particulars of certain functions...etc.

seems the manual skips around on some things.

I got mine hooked up yesterday. I still need to get everything set on it. What I don't like, is the fact I cannot control my DVD player with the remote (DVD is a Pioneer 563a)...

soundwise, this unit rocks.

If you figure out a code for the DA20, let me know. I've been wondering about that for a while now.
