Topic: Newbie to running open rig

I want to try and use the open rig I have cobbled together from the yardsale this coming weekend and when I was putting the rig in front of one of my Klipsch Chorus II's, I had to crank the level on the R-09 to 30 (max) to get proper levels from -6 to -3:

SPC4's > Denecke PS-2 > Lo-Hi Line transformers > R-09 (line-in, mic gain low)

Now I may have not had a high SPL situation as I don't want to scare the neighbors, but what if I am not getting enough gain?

Should I run mic-in with this?
Mic gain on high?
Introduce the ST-9100 pre-amp into lineage?

Obviously I don't want to brickwall, but have no experience with the SPC4's yet.

It must be the R-09.  I plugged in my M1 with Mic In with the SP C4's and I get plenty of gain.

I ran my C4's > PS-2 > Line Transformers > M1 (Line In) with plenty of gain on the unit.  The line transformers are in the chain so you can run line in instead of mic in.

Without the line transformers you would have to run mic in to get enough gain with the C4's.  At least that was my experience.

First off, you're right in one regard - you'll never get anywhere close to concert SPLs on a home stereo, just won't happen.

Secondly, in comparison to the R09 vs. the M1, by running line in on the Edirol (the high gain mic setting has no effect by the way) and mic in on the M1 you're comparing apples to oranges. The mic in setting will automatically give you WAY more gain, and most likely more than you'll ever need in a live setting.

Run the R09 line in, you'll be fine.

+T guys. I'll run line-in on either the M1 or the R-09 and hopefully that should do the trick.

Line-in did the trick.  Ran the R-09 at 15 and was peaking -6 to -3, so the R-09 did provide the gain needed with high SPL's and I didn't need to go +30.

I was taping Joe Bonamassa and his FOH sound engineer was nice enough to let me put my stand inside the "fenced-in" area of the soundboard, so I was able to leave my rig running and go to my seat, 3rd row DFC.
