very sorry to blow up this place on my 1st day, but I have been waiting to find a resource like this for awhile, and questions just are poppin...
I do alot of blues trading with a guy in Toykyo who does alot of taping there.. he just got all of Neil Young's tour there sneak-a-tpae style.
I could get him to hook me up with some of the latest stuff if I know what to ask for. Are the portable harddrive recorders that blow away US models.. thanks

We're askin' you!
-
typically, the only things taper-related that are JDM (japan domestic market) only are minidisc recorders and laptops.
-
you used to be able to get DAT decks pretty cheaply over there, I'd imagine you could find some good deals on the viao and fujitsu and toshiba sub-notebooks
-
Not to mention really freakin' small laptops. There is an American distributor here that sells litte Japanese laptops with American software pre-installed. If you're looking to get into laptop taping, that might be fun.
Out of curiosity, how does the Dollar stack up against the Yen? Is it worth importing stuff through a friend that you can normally get here?
-
My bud says DAT is still most popular.. Asked me if HD were pop here, cause they aren't there.....gonna ask about types of mini HD tey might use for other purposes and he also said he would pull toghter some interesting Jap. links....
what american ditrib. for tiny laptops and links? I'm just interested in a small laptop on the side....

Rippin link!
Say, Spearhead? If your pal in Japan was involved or knows people who were, pass along my most sincere thanks for the 04-11 & 12 2002 Akasaka Blitz TOOL recordings. Without a doubt they are not only among my favorite shows, but two of the finest TOOL boots I have heard.
And if the subject comes up, I am interested to know if anyone might be thinking about a PDA we can use with the USB A/D Converters out there. Seems fairly straight forward to me, but then again I am brand new to this PDA recording stuff.
Cheers!

If only we had audiences like that in the States...

I'm liking the 7x5.5x1.3 inch Sony PCG-U101
13hr battery life & a pcmcia slot.
the Fudgie Biblio is showing <2hr battery life :(
could it be the integrated sub ?
-
holy mashed potatoes that Biblio sounds unbelievable. Truly "unique and utilitarian" as they put it. Too good to be true?
But hey, doesn't everybody in Japan have mini watch cameras and eye activated VR machines for fighting robots in the streets etc..
-
the dynamism site is cool, but you can find them a lot cheaper on ebay. Thats where I got my vaio u3. its smaller than my ad2k and fits in my gear bag. I really really like it. mine actually came thru one of these importing companies, then was sold to me. I ditched the slow xp install for a much quicker w2k.
www.conics.net is a good source for used mini-laptops, and they have all the drivers you need to 'americanize' the japanese vaios.
