Do mics have a burn-in time?

(1/1)

sdc:
Does anyone have a sense whether new microphones require burn-in time, like home audio equipment does?  Thanks.

Ronmac:
Yes, I have sense, and no they do not.

Except... it is always wise to warm up the tube mics for an hour or so before use. They may also have some sonic change over time as the tubes age.

DSatz:
If a DC-polarized condenser microphone has been exposed to moisture (whether it was on or not at the time), it's a good idea to let it run for an hour or so before trying to use it again for anything important.

But other than that, any properly powered, solid-state condenser microphone should be ready to use as soon as it's been powered up and is putting out a signal.

sdc:
Great.  Thanks.
