DVD Data Question...
« on: June 02, 2005, 05:05:52 PM »
I have been transferring my DATs to the PC, and then duming the 16/48 wav. files to burn on DVD as data. No problems with most of these except two. Once trying to move the data files from the DVD back on the PC, one set locks up my whole PC and never finishes transferring. I left one for a few hours, and still nothing. The other three sets transfer just fine. Any idea what could have caused this? Burning software used was Nero in the "DVD"/"DATA" mode! I have since redone these two, but still confused why it happened once. I am going back over the rest of my DVD data discs to make sure it hasn't happened again...

sounds like you had a bad burn -- I've been using nero's verify data feature to have it read the dvd's data and verify that it's the same as the source data after it's done burning.

Where do I find Nero's Verify Data feature?

I don't have nero on this computer, but recall that it's a checkable box that's on the page that nero shows while buring a data dvd/cd.  Check the box and it'll verify data after the burn.

Another fail-safe is to create md5s for the files being burned to disk and run the md5s from the disk to confirm the data integrity once the disk is burned.  This is nice for future confirmation of the disk's data integrity too.

md5's will solve youyr problem IMO, then you dont have to verify in nero and the brun doesnt take as long, you simply burn the dvd w/ md5's on each show, and then verify the md5's after the burn, cake easy and i do it to everythiung
