Running a Kingston 16GB Class 4 card in my camera. Last night at Robyn show in Manchester

Started getting some issues and error messages.....
I was doing some heavy zooming to and fro at the start of the show (struggling with lights / strobes etc to get decent focus). Message came up on the screen saying (in a nutshell) that the card was too slow (think it stated unresponsive) and recording (filming) would be aborted.
I'm thinking that the card is too slow, and I should be running a Class 6 in it?
Any thoughts, as I've not had this issue before, and have done quite a lot of shows recently with zoom useage....
Hope it's not the camera and keen to resolve this so I don't have further issues with 'faulty' equipment

Yeah sounds like a card issue, a minimum of Class 6 is recommended for HD video - or at least 10Mb/s

Just bought a DMC-ZS7 yesterday at B&H Photo for $257 (shipped). I have high hopes for it!

Cheers for taking the time to reply guys....class 6 it is then...strange that I've filmed 10+ shows and it's only just flagged this problem....not a problem though....better than a camera fault....

i just got the 32GB class 10 up to 30mb/s card at B and H it was just about the same price as the DMC -Zs7.
battery life is killing me,

if somebody could rig up a way to run it on a dvd style battery, that'd be awesome.

I have a new generation SanDisk Extreme 16 GB with a 30MB/s read/write and I still get the issue sometimes. This only happens during high strobe and visually rich filming. It's rare but it has happened.

That's interesting that you get issues with a 30Mb/s card. I've recently had write issues using a Transcend Class 10 card (although write speed is only 16Mb/s) and had one instance whereby recording ended because it couldn't write the data fast enough, another time the camera froze up completely, no buttons would work, had to take the battery out to reset it. Fortunately in both cases I was able to retrieve the data though. But as you say, during high strobing/visuals there can be issues writing data to the cards.

The card isn't cheap either. Amazon had the same card at two different prices. One was for like $120 and it was from amazon.com and then another that was like $65 and from chinese third party company. I went with the one from amazon because I could count on them. And $65 for a 16 GB card is just too good to be true.
Maybe not the place for this but I also had an issue with the camera just straight up freezing in mid recording. The only way to get it to reset was to take the battery out.
Both that and the read/write error were at my first show and also a show heavy on lights/strobes so I think it was just coincidence because every show after has been awesome.

Why do you think a strobe would be a problem?i think it may be the camera that cant keep up with the fast visuals not the card.

I'm sure you know this, but theoretically, the more that's going on visually, the higher the bitrate of the video is. And therefore the more data is being written to the card in a shorter amount of time.
For instance if you're recording something in a very dark place or without much going on visually, even on the highest quality setting, you'll actually get a lower bitrate and smaller overall filesize because of it. I can't speak for this camera, but I've seen it myself with others, and I'm guessing this camera uses VBR recording as well.

You are correct but im fairly certain that it is CBR in avc.
