Just wondering if you can adjust gain independently Left/Right? I want to run either my VMS02IB->DR-40 or 60v PFA->DR-40 for a super small 2 channel rig, and I need to be able to adjust each channel independently from the other one! If you can ONLY adjust gain with both channels at once like a "ganged" gain setup would be, when one knob applies gain to both channels, then I'm not really interested!
Sorry to ask such a silly question, but I've looked over the DR40 manual on the Tascam website a bunch and couldn't find a definitive answer!
Thanks in advance & Happy Taping!

Yes you can, it was a feature added in a firmware upgrade.

Excellent! Thanks for the reply! Is it easy to adjust the gain on each channel separately when recording? Also, once the levels ARE adjusted independently to where Left & Right are pretty evenly matched db-wise, is it possible to THEN gang the channels together and adjust both channels at the SAME time?
Sorry for all of the questions but the Tascam DR-40 page isn't exactly the most descriptive website page ever lol!

To select independent level control, you press the 'Rec Mode' button, select 'Source' and change it to EXT INDEP.
You use the 1/2 SOLO button to toggle between left and right level control.
As far as know, you can't gang the level controls while in independent mode.

Thanks for the info! I just read the whole manual and the FW Updates and figured that out lol! So now, I need to choose between the DR-40 and the DR-05 ;D

I love my lil dr-40. Sturdy, flexible, sounds decent. Good to leave at a board if your running somewhere else. And I've made some nice lil matrix's with the internals and board. My buddy has a dr-5 and it's great, def a lil smaller but the extra inputs are helpful for idk how much$ more but just an 1/8" input is limited.
