Title: .flac to .wav decode error
Post by: roskile on November 08, 2005, 05:26:41 PM
hi guys,

currrently i have FLAC frontend 1.7.1 installed on my computer and have used before many times without any problems. i recently downloaded a skinny puppy show encoded to FLAC found at dimeadozen. upon trying to decode to .wav an error window pops up. there is no option to continue and uponing clicking OK the whole program closes. i have tried uninstalling, including clearing out all registry entries, and reinstalling only to receive the same error again. anybody have this happen or know of a way this can be fixed?

i didn't know if this was the correct section to place this question in. if not i apologize, please feel free to move to the proper forum.

regards,
roskile

The latest version on http://mikewren.com/flac is 1.1.2a, so I'm not sure what you're using. My first thought: are you sure the file is complete? Either way, check out that page I linked. There are help forums there.

those options only matter when encoding and have no impact on decoding.

some steps to try:
-make sure you have free space on the drive where you are decompressing
-make sure that free space is not fragmented
-test the flac itself to see if it verifies against its own internal checksum (use 'flac -t' or the testflac script inside shnizzle)
-try to decode the flac with the NEWEST flac binary (1.1.2 i believe)

-if there were external checksums of the entire .flac file itself you might check those just to make sure you got everything correctly in the first place (despite what the flac bigots tell people there IS a reason to have MD5s of the entire flac file -- here is the main one)

good advice.

make sure that the FLAC file you downloaded is complete and that it verifies.  If there is an error, and re-downloading it is not an option, one thing to try that has not yet been mentioned is to check off the "decode through errors" option.  you might get a blip where the error is, but then at least you've still got most of the recording salvaged...
