Camera mounted mic for Sony HVR-A1U: any suggestions?
« on: August 19, 2008, 11:36:40 AM »
Maybe there's somebody out there with usefull suggestions.

I am looking for an alternative to the shotgun mic that comes with this the Sony A1U

    My recording scenarios are mostly frontrow or onstage aka close to the source
    I do not want to record audio separatly for various reasons
    The mic should be of reasonable size (not a "tank" like the rode nt4)
    Prize range ~ to $1,500

a shotgun on stage isn't an optimal solution as I move the camera around a lot. crowd/band/crowd etc. This results in heavy sound waves.
but thanks for the input.

Røde Stereo VideoMic

X/Y Stereo on-camera microphone
Now videographers can use true 'studio' stereo recording techniques in the field with ease. The X/Y configuration enables the StereoVideoMic to capture the true ambience of the recording space, while still offering a high level of rear rejection and low noise. Fitted with a shoe mount, the StereoVideoMic has the same low noise circuit design as the best selling VideoMic. The StereoVideoMic offers 9V battery operation, an LED battery status indicator, high pass filter switch, and a -10dB pad switch which allows for the mic to be used on most cameras with perfect level control. You can also use the StereoVideoMic as a remote mic on a stand, or a RØDE boom pole (optional), which truly makes this versatile product well suited for all video applications including Electronic News Gathering (ENG), Weddings, Sports Events & Interviews.

    * Stereo X/Y Condenser Microphone
    * Broadcast Sound Quality
    * Low Noise Circuitry
    * Two step High-Pass Filter - Flat or 80Hz

do you have experience with this mic in a loud electric guitar driven environment?
