audacity freezing
« on: June 30, 2007, 03:56:46 PM »
i am trying to dither and resample in audacity
i have done it before with no probs
but this time everytime i try and change the bitrate from 32 float (recorded in 24 bit)
i get a spinning beachball of death on my mac and it has to be force quit
any ideas of what might be causing this? it has to be the file because its doing it on 2 different comps
thanks

EDIT got ti to work after about an hr
not sure how or why but it worked like its suppose to

I have had intermittent freezing problems with Audacity on my WinTel platform on only the current beta.  I like the beta.  I will continue with the beta when I use Audacity.  Are you using the beta, too?    8)

I'm using audacity 1.2.5 and it freezes whenever I make too many commands at once (usually when shrinking or expanding the wav size).  I've never done the dithering or resampling thing so I don't have a direct corelary (sp?).  But I consider audacity to be rather unstable and am in the habit of almost constantly saving after each command...   :(

I have used the beta for fade-in, fade-out; normalizing, reworking the response curve to bring up or lower the bottom or top and that is about it.  I do not rush the time between commands.  And it rarely crashes.  The earlier, stable, release has not crashed on me, but I like the beta more.    8)

Look in the Preferences - make sure you have enough space in your "Temp Directory" - you should have at least double your file size in working space...otherwise it will bog down - or just crash...
