Sony/Lumix Refurbs? (also decision help...)
« on: February 07, 2013, 11:22:11 PM »
Can anyone speak on the quality or have any general info on refurbished cameras?  I'm looking for a little PAS with decent video and narrowed my search a bit, but am curious about the factory refurb options as they're obviously the cheapest.

I'm leaning heavily towards the Lumix ZS19, but am also considering the Sony hx9v since there are some used/refurbed in the same price range on Ebay.

I've read over the long Lumix ZS3 and Sony hx9v threads so know there is much love for both, but from some of the youtube concert footage I found I thought the ZS19 captured some nice stuff.  Anyone care to throw in any opinions?  I am a terrible photographer and have little experience with cameras, but this will be mainly for video.  Planning on just clamping it to the stand a foot or so above head level and not messing with it.

Sony has an official ebay and I have seen hx9v on there from time to time.  I have bought ALOT of refurbs over the last few years without a problem(usually from Amazon because of there excellent return policies, never needed).   Most ebay sellers that call a camera a 'refurb' simply mean they have dpme some simple cleaning and verified the cam is in working order.

Factory refurb = full QA check before resale + reduced price
New = random QA checks off the line + full price

That said, Buy from a reputable seller like b&h or adorama
