I'm looking at possibly getting a set of either CMC-4U (ATU853) or CMC-8 (AT943) Hypers (and maybe omni caps as well - gotta cover all bases!). From what I can tell both distort at loud volumes, but a $25 low sens mod can fix that. Dumb question #1, will this mod need to be done on the omni caps as well.
Dumb question#2: I like the look of the SPSB-11 mini battery box -nice & small, and note it takes a 12v battery - can this mess anything up, like my existing mics and/or the R-09?
How do the mics compare sizewise?
-
The low-sens-mod is done in the 3.5mm-plug and not in the interchangeable mic-capsules. ;)
You can use both 12V and 9V bboxes.

CMC-4U are larger than the CMC-8. I have 853's and 943's and can take a picture when I get home for you. (at work now)

Thanks :) that would be very cool.

The first photo is an 853 and 943 side by side with a Washington for reference.
The second photo is the 943 on top with the 853 on the bottom. The 853 is attached to an adapter ring and then to a 943 body.
Third photo for the heck of it is my MM-HLSC-1 off to the right. (recently Church modded)
While I had the camera out, I took pics of a $1 case I bought at a craft store that perfectly fits all my caps, windscreens, and clips.
-
Wow, thanks for that. Quite a difference in size :o
Might go for the 943's as I'll be stealthing most of the time.
Thanks again :)

That'd probably be best for your needs. You can always get the larger 853 caps at a later date if need be.
-
Do your 943's have standard or lightweight cable?
Damn, the price of caps has gone up a bit, might grab the omni's at a later date.

When I got them in 2004 there wasn't a choice in cables. I *think* it's the standard cable, but can't make a comparison with anything.
-
Get the standard wire (thats what I have). Don't worry, its easy to stealth. I must say that the wire seems very good (nice and rugged) while not being too 'thin' or too 'thick'.
-
Thanks for the info, I'll go for the standard. ;D

Excellent pics Belexes, +T!
That's basically the same mic/cap set up I'm running right now (with some Oade omnis tossed in the mix too).
What store did you pick up that little box in? I may have to go out and try to find one.

Not West coast or upper East coast friendly yet.
NEVER open on Sundays. Has something to do with the founders being strict Mormons.

Hi there,
What exactly is that "Church modded" thing on your HLSC-1? Just curious because I also have a pair.
Thanks in advance ;)
-
Hey nice case and sticker Belexes !! I use something very similar. Mine is a fly fishing box lined with anti-static foam:

+T Javier. My case isn't big enough to fit my mini-guns. May have to think about something like what you did. :hmmm:

New mod for Chris. He lowered the noise floor on them and made a few other changes. I plan on using them for the first time this Friday since the mod. Will post a sample if interest is there.

No worries, I found it online for you and anyone else interested:

You pay more in shipping than the darn thing is worth, but maybe buy a bunch of them and see if anyone else here wants them.

Thanks for the link. Think I'll check a few local craft store out around my neck of the woods first. I'll probably end up paying a bit more the box, but save on shipping.
They always get you, one way or another.

Huge interest on my side. I don't even know about such mod.
The HLSC-1 is pretty quiet and if Chris could made them even quieter, that should be great. ;)
