Take a hockey stick and cut the blade off, trim to desired spread, drill a hole in the center to place on stand, secure with duct tape or velcro, etc ., add a clamp on either end, works like a charm ...

Actually that's very similar to a friend of mine's setup.  He had a long piece of wood with a stand adapter in the middle.  He put some velcro on it and ran dpa4060s on it.  Made some great tapes...
