Benchmark PRE420

Sounds a bit big for portable use, but I'll bet if you add a pair of Studio Projects LSD2s it would be one hell of a party       ::)      8)

Benchmark Media Systems is redefining performance expectations yet again with today's announcement of the PRE420 - a four channel microphone preamplifier mixer. The PRE420's partnership of unexpected flexibility and phenomenal performance heralds a new level of excellence.

"Even high-end preamplifiers can mask subtle details because of intermodulation istortion," explains John Siau, Director of Engineering at Benchmark Media Systems. "This is a symptom of RF interference and non-linear performance at ultra-sonic frequencies. The PRE420 's innovative circuitry provides ultra-low distortion at high frequencies - up to 500kHz - while maintaining RF-immunity in the most demanding environments."

Each of the PRE420's four microphone inputs include switchable 40Hz high-pass filter, +48V Phantom power, and 20dB pad. Gain ranges from 22dB to 66dB or 2dB to 46dB of gain with the 20dB pad enabled. The PRE420 has four direct outputs, two control room outputs, and two stereo outputs. The PRE420 also includes the HPA2" - Benchmark's signature high- current, 0-Ohm headphone amplifier.

The PRE420 also features an astonishingly low-noise stereo mix bus driven by Benchmark's proprietary MirrorPan" circuitry to achieve precise, distortion- free, constant-power panning.

"The unparalleled transparency of the mix bus and pan circuitry is faithfully delivered to all mix outputs with consistent, high resolution to all independent, direct, stereo, and control room XLR outputs," said John Siau.

"The PRE420 offers enormous flexibility with uncompromised sonic integrity at an unprecedented value, and that is precisely what we are committed to at Benchmark," added Allen Burdick, noting the first units will ship on February 1st, 2007 for $2775.00 USD.
