I couldn't find the exact model on the LMA, but this set sounds pretty decent with a MM-BSM-1

You provide a link that provides specs that say maximum SPL level of 120 dB even when using a battery box. Since your friend records a lot of loud stuff, I don't think these would be suitable. He should probably have something with the 4.7 mod which includes all Church Audio mics and AT853 mics with the mod that are often put up for sale at good prices (though a bit higher than $100) by tgakidis. I get great results with either of these options, as do many other members. If he wants omnis, AT933's with the mod would be fine as well, though I wouldn't go with AT933 for cards.
AT853's (all caps)/CM-300 Franken Naks (CP-1,2,3)/JBMod Nak 700's (CP-701,702) > Tascam DR-680
Or Sonic Studios DSM-6 > M10
