SanDisk Dropouts on Edirol HR9
« on: May 12, 2015, 02:50:28 PM »
I hope this is the right area to post for help and guidance....

But I've got an Edirol HR9, using SanDisk Ultra Media 4g or 8g.

I have been getting small dropouts on my recordings, that happen all over the place....loud or quiet passages, don't matter.

These dropouts occur on all recordings, regardless of microphones, cables, or using the internal microphones.

Could it be the media, or is it time for a new recorder?

I've attached a screenshot of these dropouts as they appear on Audacity....shaded in the gray area.

Any help on troubleshooting?

It could possibly be the media or the recorder. Have you tried a different brand media? Did you get the same results? If so probably the recorder. If no drop-outs on different branded media probably the SanDisk cards.

Have you recently formatted the media in the recorder? If not, that is where I would start; if so, and the drop-outs still occur I would try a different brand card.

<eta> One other possibility comes to mind - if using an external battery it could be a momentary loss of power caused by either a bad battery or bad cable connection. I'm not familiar with the R9 so if it loses power and subsequently shuts down without writing any more data then this obviously isn't the problem. </eta>

Or simply could be the mic or line input

Or simply could be the mic or line input

Happens with all microphones, cables, as well as built in microphone.

First thing to try is a different card in circumstances like this.

Also that failing "SanDisk" card may not really be a SanDisk depending on where purchased (there are more than enough fake cards around that one has to buy from major retailers that won't have counterfeits...).

Had the same issue on my DR-05 last week (except it was little bits of audio and mostly dropout).  New memorycard fixed the problem
