Anita Versatile Mic
« on: May 08, 2004, 01:55:13 PM »
Hey,

I have a minidisc.  I want to record my buddies playing tunes at my house, and randomly tape some small shows I go to that are almost 99% acoustic, and in circles, and outdoors.  I am looking for something small that i can pack up muy pronto, is super non intrusive, but not stealth, and is extremely cost efficient.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I am recording live music with a Sony MZ-R37 Mini Disc Portable  Walkman Recorder.  It is pretty cool , and I have actually recorded us playing with the FREE microphone that comes with my computer!  It came out surprising good, but I know that this is not adequate for my upcoming needs.  Any help recommending a cheap, good, hidden mic for acoustic bluegrass recordings is greatly appreciated.

I'd say the Audio Technica at853's from Sound Professionals would probably suit your needs- they're good starter mics- switchable caps, super low profile, and easy to build stand mounts for(I think there are some pics in the rig pics section)
you probably want to pick up the Sound Professionals battery box to keep your md from clipping- these pop up in the yard sell section from time to time
