making the wrong cables unappreciation
« on: February 28, 2005, 12:52:34 PM »
so, I got around to making the interconnects to run from the MX 100 to my AD20, and for some silly ass reason I thought the out's form the MX 100 were 1/4" plugs, but no....they aren't. :-\ they are RCA, and I felt like a bonafide bonehead!

On the other hand, I am glad I decided to make these first as opposed to jumping right into the mic cables. Now I have at least a bit more understanding of getting good solder flow and just how long (or short if you will) to trim the wire. so it wasn't a complete loss.

So, how do you run starquad cable for RCA>XLR connects? ;D

I made a pair of XLR > RCA cables using the starquads. I just did a goole search for XLR > RCA and found a diagram that showed how to do balanced and unbalanced.

I was looking at this pic and wondering, do you split the shield at the XLR end betwen pin 1 and 2 and then wire the whole shield and ground wire to the sleeve of the RCA?

Or do you simply leave the shield unatatched at the XLR end and only bring it into play at the RCA end?

Or this:

"The guy who's been dissed, dismissed and demoted so often that he should have officially changed his first name to "Backup." "
