Title: Anyone make an Eco-charge power cable for the 722?
Post by: lyle on December 03, 2005, 02:34:11 PM
SSIA

I know I can make my own or have it made locally but thought I would see if someone has them ready to go? Thanks.

I'm curious as to why you would want to run the 722 off of a SLA?

Maybe just to be able to do a live swap without missing anything. Otherwise, I agree - the camcorder batteries are awesome.

I think he's running a V2 in front of it...  If so he'll need to bring an SLA anyway.

The Hirose HR10-7P-4P connectors are kind of a pain to work with.  If I were you, I'd grab a set of 4-pin XLRs (male and female), cut the included AC power cord and put it back together with the XLRs.  Then you can use the cable as a Hirose <> XLR4 adapter.  I've been meaning to do this myself just to have the ability to 'hot swap' camcorder batteries on the 722 by running from an external 12v source temporarily.  Seems like an ideal thing to have come summer.

Yea, I think you're right. Looked into making my own... but when you see the small gauge wire spec'ed out for the Hirose... well, I couldn't even find it in (small) bulk anywhere.

Gave up and got something like this:

Can't find the exact one I ordered... it's longer and I think it may have been cheaper... felt a little better about paying the price after adding up the cost of individual parts.

I see they make one with a male 4-pin XLR, but don't have a clue if the pin out will work with a 722/eco-charge.

That makes sense. How does the 722 behave when there is (presumably) a SLA connected to the Hirose connector and a li-ion mounted?

Depends on how you have the cable wired. There are 4 pins on the connector. From what I recall from an older post on the SD support forum, two of them activate the charging circuit and two provide power to the unit. If I'm correct on that, you can build a cable that only powers the unit or only charges or both.
