I would suggest a dedicated 12v Li-Ion like the Battery Geek 10-14-115...I have one for my Fostex FR2LE....nice battery

I've run mine ~10hrs by swapping 9V DVD batts.  I think I switched between three of them comfortably. I didn't bother making a parallel input power cable for it like I did with the V3 since I can simply let it switch over to the AAs for a few moments between swaps.

I'm in Asheville and I've got 2 9v DVD batteries with cable to the 680 you're welcome to borrow if theres nothing else is going on that night.  At the very least I've got a battery cable you can borrow if you can get DVD batteries from other people.

While I've never run it for 8 hours, I use one of the double stack Tekkeon's, I have used it for over 5 hours with only a minor dent in power consumption.

I have 2 dvd initial batterys 9v, but was skeptical on using 9v when the voltage problem starts at 8.2v.

how long of run time you guys getting on a 9v dvd?

I used a 10Ah 12v sla for over 5 hours and it was still above 12v when I was done.  I think you could get 8 hours out of one with no problem.

The specific mics being used could well affect total runtime,

Set up your mics and use the dr680 to record the radio/ambient noise -- see how long it runs before a dvd battery dies and repeat a few more times to confirm.  This should give you a good idea of how much time you'll get at the show and you can spot check the recordings for distortion/etc. to address your voltage concerns.

I believe the dvd battery has a voltage regulator and put out close to 9v until the voltage regulator shuts it down.

Like your dr680, my hdp2 uses internal aa batteries.  I used a pair of wooden dowels to make "fake" aa batteries, screwed wire leads onto the end of each and use one of my 9v batteries to power it through this connection.  I used the other 9v to power it through an adapter plug.   This causes my hdp2 to run on the adaptor plug battery until it's drained and then automatically switch over to the dvd battery powering through the aa battery bay.  I was able to power my hdp2 continuously throughout all day festivals using this setup.

I've been running mine with a Tekkeon 3450 set to 12V and it's been fine.  I'm a little nervous using it after reading about all the problems some people have had.  I think i'm going to pick up one of those Battery Geek 12V just to be safe.

I always run mine with DVD batteries but I never use phantom because i use external preamps.  I have never had any issues running my 680 with 9v dvd batteries.
