I need a SDHC to my new 1080p camera Canon HF100.
I think I need a 8 gb or 16 gb. How fast should the data speed be on the card?
What should I check?

Class 4 is fast enough for the highest bitrate mode. Hell, if you knock the bitrate down by one level Class 2 is fast enough (but please don't do this. AVCHD is already compressed enough, you don't wanna be lowering the bitrate even further).
I use Transcend SDHC cards in all my stuff (I don't actually have a HF100 myself, but used them in my Dad's HF100 on occasion, and the Transcend cards work fine). A 16GB Class 6 Transcend SDHC card will set you back £30 ish over here... so thats like US$50 maybe?

Doesn't the Canon manual say a "class 6" card should be used?

I think the manual says class 4 and higher for 1080p. I am using a Kingston 32 GB Class 4, and every time I turn it on, I get a message saying that the video may not record properly due to the speed of the card. However, I have had no problems, even recording close to 2 hr straight through.

I bought a "Kingston 8 gb Class 6 (6mb/s) card"
I guess that will do.

I swear my HF10 manual said class 6, but on the Canon site, it does indeed say class 4. I am using a Transcend 8GB class 6 card in mine, and have never had a problem.

pjdavep, for how long can you tape with an 8 GB card with the best quality settings?
-
1 hour per 8GB

Received a 16gb SDHC Class 4 (15mb/s) today ;) And I'm going to film my first concert tonight.
Great timing :D I can do 2 hours 4 minutes on best quality now. I will probably use that.
