« on: December 24, 2005, 02:47:11 PM »

I am going to be transferring some VHS tapes onto my computer with Vegas Video 6.
Are there any tips i should know about to get optimal results?
I will be running from VCR>usb video interface>Vegas Video

thanks

Does the USB video interface convert from analog to digital?

I recommend getting an account (for free) at Sony's website where there are dedicated forums for Vegas and DVD Architect.

Something else will be doing the A/D, definately not Vegas. Not to mention, there's probably not one VCR on the market with USB outs... LOL!

My guess is that you're passing through a DV cam to pull this off. Correct?

Also, you'll probably be capturing with the Capture App, not Vegas directly.

There's really nothing to do on the capture front because the A/D will be doing all of the heavy lifting, so you better hope your AD is good. After that, once captured, you can tweak, color correct, etc. if needed. But Vegas will ONLY bring in the DV from the source (whatever that is), Vegas won't do anything while capturing except to be a bit bucket from the USB to your HD.

BTW, the Vegas forum on DVInfo.net is your friend when it comes to Vegas...

Hey Tainted!  Great forum!

You're not joking about this forum being your friend.  There are some true heavyweights in the Vegas world posting in there - guys like Edward Troxel and Doug Spotted Eagle.

Thanks a million!!

best option to not to go to usb port...need a firewire & capture card...i have been using vegas 6..still learning new things all the time.....what i can do is..i can go go VHS>mini dv camcorder>firewire out>firewire to capture card in the computer...my mini dv camcorder has a pass through which is really nice because you get the best capture with the firewire...
