Canon PowerShot TX-1?
« on: September 12, 2007, 08:04:50 PM »
Anyone have any concert-filming experience with this compact photo/video hybrid?  I've been happy with my Panasonic 3CCD camcorder, but am looking for something I can use when I need to be more low-profile.  The specs on the TX-1 (especially the 10X zoom in movie mode) look good on paper, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any real world experience they can share.

No filming experience whatsoever... but I wouldn't use the TX-1 for video.  It's really a still camera that has some nice video features.  Practically speaking, keep in mind that it uses SD cards.  According to dpreview.com, at its highest quality setting it burns through 4-1/2 MB per second which means you just won't even have a fraction the storage capacity you need.

Favorite generic quote from Archive.org:
"This recording is SICK--it's almost as good as a soundboard!"

Thanks for the input Frank.  I have thought about the media issue.  I'm not so much interested in the hi def video but rather the 10X zoom and 30 minute capture time (at 640 X 480, 30fps) per 4GB SD card.  I already have a couple 4GB cards so I would need 2-3 more, and the price is coming down all the time.  Swapping out the cards every half hour WOULD be a major PITA though.

I love my miniDV but sometimes the heft of that thing is just not practical.
