Sound card/DAC for post processing
« on: April 17, 2013, 07:59:50 AM »
Hi all,

Been thinking of updating my Sound card or DAC for post processing. I currently have 3 DAW's all are workstations. One has a old RME24/96 sound card that works with window XP. Second is hooked up to a PS Audio DAC and the third is currently using a Audioquest dragonfly for listening. 2 PC's are XP with wavelab 5.0 or 6.0.

The one I am thinking of upgrading is a Window 7 on a Asus PC running wavlab 6.0 and currently run the Audioquest dragonfly for listening. Been thinking of getting a new sound card possible a lynx2 (PCI slot) though I see many new outboard DAC's are out there and someone suggested the Universal Audio Apollo (USB) if I want to spend the money.

I use the DAW to process files and listen through a preamp hooked up to a amp and speakers with a 3.5 mini stereo plug connected thru RCA to the back of the preamp. I want to keep the preamp and amp in this set up.

I know about latency and using something internal to the PC compared to a outboard DAC. Hope I made this clear.

Any suggestions or possible other routes?

Thanks in advance.
