optimizing OSX (Panther) for battery life.
« on: August 09, 2004, 10:57:04 PM »
Ok, So far since I've had this 1 ghz G4 iBook I've used it without a battery only a few times and gotten about 4hours or so out of it doing photoshop & Illustrator stuff. I have not set up any other power preferences that what was shipped as the default. I'm pretty sure I can squeak more out of it but would appreciate a link to where to turn off what to maximize battery life. I'm bringing the iBook to coventry but will most likely leave it in the car and just transfer stuff for the ride home. But then a 24 bit patch rat does sound kind of fun. ;)

turn the screen brightness down to the first or second tick.  that will add to yr battery life considerably.
turn off bluetooth, airport whenever you're not using them

Also turn off ethernet, it draws some power as well.  Oh and turn the processor speed to "Automatic" when on battery power.  That should be it...
