Compression quesiton
« on: August 24, 2004, 11:25:41 AM »
I have a recording...an AUD. Vocal and acoustic guitar...the guitar wasn't in the house mix for the first few songs...

If I select the guitar between the verses and amplify it a few db, that works nicely...

But is there better way to achieve this effect...

A Compressor...? Any suggestions for

Threshhold

Ratio

Attack Time

I just want to increase the quiet parts where there is no singing...

go for it, attack 35-40ms to let transients thru, ratio 3 or 4 :1, release  between 50 - 100ms whichever works better... of course YMMV...  If you can hear the comnpression, it's probably too much.  I wouldn't push it past like 4-5db of gain reduction ;)
